Jamaican roots play actor,Cleve “Chuchu” Warren died recently from a drug overdose. It was found out that he had 57 pellets of cocaine in his system and one of the pellets burst and eventually led to his death.
This is a sad story but unfortunately there are many more cases like his around the world. Chuchu was a public figure. Acting does not pay that much in Jamaica. But as a public figure one is expected to portray yourself as being wealthy. This not only goes for Jamaican public figures but celebrities around the world. Why is it that a lot creative minds turn to drugs? Because there are many examples of celebrities being found dead after overdosing.
One recent example is Lee Thompson Young who was the lead actor in the Disney Channel series The Famous Jet Jackson . The King of Pop himself died of a drug overdose and so did King of Rock and role Elvis Presley.
Hollywood Legends such as Billy Holiday, Marilyn Munroe and Whitney Huston all had remnants of drugs in their system when their autopsies were done.
Another recent publicised case was Cory Monteith who was the lead actor in the TV show “Glee”
There are so many reasons. Drugs provide you with a temporary escape route. The 10 second high makes you forget all your troubles. Troubles you say Janelle. What troubles could celebrities have and they have all that money? That is exactly the problem.
In the celebrity world everyone knows who you are and will do anything for you for a price. Because your so wealthy you do not know who is genuine. From who means you harm.
You can create your own reality and people will fit into your agenda. This world becomes monotonous. Drugs provide that type of excitement. They allow you to delve into the unkown.
In Chuchu’s case it is believed he was serving as a drug mule. So he might have served as a pawn in the drug abuse cycle. Drugs mash up people’s lives. In the case of a family. If the father and the mother are too focused on trying to get their next fix.
All their time, energy and money is spent on aquiring the drugs. The money that would have been used for bills, food, school supplies and any other thing goes into drug usage.
Drugs have different effects on people and users in most cases become abusive. When I refer to drugs, I don’t mean only cocaine. Alcohol is also a drug. Like everything else it should be drank in moderation. Alcoholics also become hooked on that feeling they get when they reach the tipsy then drunk stage.
Marijuana is also one of the drugs I am referring to. Don’t get me wrong I am for using marijuana the right way. Marijuana has so many medicinal properties and the ability to treat glaucoma and many other health benefits. But, too much of a good thing isn’t good for anyone!
We do not know the dosage of the drug when one decides to smoke it. It also has the potential to drive someone crazy. What is the solution? Simple don’t do drugs. But if you can’t do without the high.
Know your limit! Don’t do drugs to try to fit in. Be you!
Set the trend of being cool. Without being high. Talk to your friends about the negative effects of drug usage. You never know you just might save a life.
